My husband and I are interested in replacing the original 1918 windows in our Craftsman. Keeping the double-hung look is important to us. So far, we’ve gotten quotes on a new construction (full insert) Pella window and replacement Anderson windows. The Pella windows, imo, look better. They are also thousands of dollars more.

My question, is this: do you have the Anderson wood veneer replacement windows? If so, did you paint or stain them? How long have you had them? Does the internal finish hold up and still look good?

I’m concerned about the durability of this thin, wood veneer.

We’ve got a total of 13 windows, some standard size double hung and some small sliders. We were quoted 10k including labor. Seems like a good deal to us but we are concerned about the toxicity of vinyl in our home. So we’re now thinking maybe wood windows instead, but are concerned we can’t afford it. Any help would be appreciated!

I am planning to replace 8-15 of my old single pane wood windows. I am actually confused as I got information from 4-5 replacement companies, obviously calamining their product is better. Some where Vinyl and couple were having Composite windows. I almost decided on Composite windows, suddenly a contractor informed that Composite windows will become soggy or twisty when its wet and it needs additional painting and extra maintenance. Also, have you heard about ‘Interstate Windows’ manufacturer who makes Composite windows, their product is good, how much is it worth, how about $450 including installation?
