These are new unfinished wood windows from Harvey. The first one that I did 2 days ago didn’t come out as I’d hoped. I sanded with fine grit paper, conditioned with Miniwax Pre-Stain (wiped off after 15 minutes), and applied 2 coats of Miniwax oil-based stain (also allowed to penetrate for 15 minutes)… but it is kind of blotchy and the color is not deep enough. Any suggestions for how to fix this or do a better job on the rest of them?

The desired shade use soft absorbant cloth between coats and make sure you wipe it to sand between coats and.
For shorter period of time you wipe it evenly to sand between coats and make sure you wipe it evenly.
