replacement windows
POOHBEAR asked:

We desperately need new replacement windows in our home. My wife is on a State Level Disability and I have been laid off work for 11 months, it’s been an extremely hard year for us.

Does anyone know any contractors or local window manufacturers or lumber supply companies that would be willing to help me install the windows or to donate any windows to upgrade our old one’s ?

The windows in our home is the Original one’s from 1959 when our home was built.

I am willing to help out to install the windows – but I have no experience in this area.

Does anyone know of any organization, agency or govt. program that might be able to legitimately help us ? We have 22 windows in a 1,200 sq. ft. home to replace.

I know I am asking something for nothing, but I would be willing to barter my time in labor in exchange for the windows being done properly and I would be willing to help.

We live in Shamokin Dam, PA 17876 near Selinsgrove, PA ( 1 hr. N of Harrisburg )

Thanks kindly

David

There is an awful lot of work involved in the installation of replacement windows so I do not think you will be able to have it done for free. You might want to contact social services and see if they can refer you to something like habitat for humanity or if you have the windows you may want to pay someone to teach you exactly how to do the work yourself.

Check with the Social Services Department, sometimes they have info on some government assistance programs to help weatherize your home &/or make it more energy efficient. Those programs have limited funding and my not be available every year.

Here’s 2 places you can start. You will have to look for their programs and read them well so be prepared to spend a few hours online doing some research. When the federal government does allocate money to help those in need they will do it through one of the many other government agencies. Most of them will have a local office in your state too for more info & to sign up for it. You can always find info on anything the feds have available with links directly from their website too (http://www.usa.gov/).

Check this website and contact this organization below. The help low income, elderly and disabled people maintain and repair their homes. They do have a branch office in Harrisburg.

Rebuilding Together Harrisburg (Greater)

I have volunteered with them in my area a couple of times. I can’t guarantee they would be able to do something as ambitious as what you are asking but they are certainly going to know what sort of resources and programs are available for you.

Best of luck to you.
