replacement windows
undrgrndwmn asked:

My husband and I are interested in replacing the original 1918 windows in our Craftsman. Keeping the double-hung look is important to us. So far, we’ve gotten quotes on a new construction (full insert) Pella window and replacement Anderson windows. The Pella windows, imo, look better. They are also thousands of dollars more.

My question, is this: do you have the Anderson wood veneer replacement windows? If so, did you paint or stain them? How long have you had them? Does the internal finish hold up and still look good?

I’m concerned about the durability of this thin, wood veneer.

Let me preface this statement by saying that I am in no way affiliated with Pella. That being said, there is a valid reason in my opinion that the windows are more expensive and it has to do with the added quality of what you will be getting.

My statement to you would be: Do you want to pay slightly more know, or even more later?

I would stay away from the Anderson composite line which I believe they cann Renewal. It is made up of wood by products such as saw dust and vinyl as the binding agent. IT is a very low quality product and I have not found one person that has used it to be pleased with it yet. If you live in an area with extreme temperature changes the windows will constantly be flexing thus creating air and water leaks. If you cannot afford the Pella wood take a look at their Impervia fiberglass line. It is more affordable and a very durable window. Other than that I would go with a quality vinyl window over the Anderson any day of the week. You will get better perfromance.
